It comes much later than anticipated but, hopefully, from here we can update more regularly. If you are able to check this blog weekly, you will find updates about the adventures (and mis-adventures) of the farm as well as news about what we are taking to market.

I thought I would start by describing a bit about our farm and the farmers co-operative we are part of. Byron and I are calling our farm Lone Tree Farm. We are located on Reg Phelan & Stella Sheppard's land out on the Byrne's Road in Morell. Reg Phelan has been organic farming since the late 1970's and not only shares his land but also shares his vaste experience and wisdom. Reg is a long standing and founding member of SeaSpray Atlantic Organic Farmers Co-operative. SeaSpray used to be a maritime-wde co-operative but recently localized to become a three-farm co-op on Prince Edward Island as farmer members deal with the challenges of the marketplace. Lone Tree Farm is now a member of the SeaSpray co-op. The third member of the co-op is Garden Lane, Jane MacNeil's farm. Jane's farm is also located on Reg's land (I guess by now you are getting a sense for the generosity and solidarity of Reg Phelan!) All three farms are also part of the Growing Circle on Prince Edward Island (http://www.growingcircleorganic.com/). The Growing Circle Co-op links buyers and sellers of local organic and/or fair trade food and products across Prince Edward Island through an online market. This initiative is still in the development phase but we soon hope that the website will be up and running.

OK, enough about the structure for now! The next posts will talk growing...
